Mental Health Crisis Admission on the Pediatric Unit

You are being admitted to the Pediatric Unit because your physical condition requires some recovery before focusing on mental health concerns. You will transfer to the Youth Mental Health Unit at Bryan West Campus once a doctor decides you are medically stable.  You will transfer by ambulance.

  • The Pediatric Unit is locked for the safety of our patients, visitors and staff.
  • Visiting hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Visitors will be limited to five immediate family members through the entire hospital stay (4 family members in the room at a time) (no significant others). All visitors must be on the approved list to visit.
  • Using a personal cell phone or computer is not allowed.  Hospital staff can assist you to call family.  Immediate family members are encouraged to call the Pediatric Unit for updates or treatment questions anytime. Family must know the HAR number to receive private information.

You will wear a hospital gown and socks. All personal belongings will be sent home with family or placed in a locked location. Staff at the nurse’s station must inspect all outside items brought to the hospital prior to entering the room. No outside stuffed animals or items with ties/strings.

A hospital staff member will be observing you at all times for your safety.  This includes when you are sleeping and going to the restroom/shower.  Clothing (including shoes) or any other item with strings are not allowed.
